June 22 Aloha Friday adventure

Aloha Friday, What an awesome end of the week adventure and my last hike for a week. Off to Aspen for a few 14ers and some needed R&R. VACATION...HERE I COME!!! Blood and Lockawata (can't remember the real name) lakes are soooo cool and the dogs were loving it, especially Tillman who swam across the whole first lake. We ran into all kinds of people at the first lake and no one at the second. Olive Roxy and Dryfus were also there for the super fun adventure and we all were happy dogs! Until next week. The dogs are in good hands meanwhile with Ian this week, Mahalo Bra!! Peace..S

June 15th #2 adventure

Aloha Friday, Free doggin' with Josie, Sasha, Roxy and Jasper...Kowabunga!!! This downhill/ freeride course was fun and STEEP. It's just one of the many crazy biking downhills in PC that us regular folk only dream of riding and love to rally down on foot slipping and a sliding and laughing all the way. GO DOGGIES!! Peace. Schwaby

June 15 adventures

Aloha, Daly canyon rocks and so do these BAD ASS dogs!! Rock on dudes! Schwaby

June 14th

Aloha, Fresh air and cool breezes on this gorgeous day in Deer Valley with Dryfus, D-bear, Brooks, Roxy, Reo, Annie and Gracie and what a wild bunch they were. As you can see there is huge open spaces for the dogs to really let loose and fly through the grass and flowers. The trails are buttery smooth and aspen lined for cool shade and just so peaceful. We hiked the Deer Camp trail in between the Flagstaff loop and everyone enjoyed themselves. This trail is great for everyone to hike and bike because it's fairly flat and open...Fast to for those who like to ride fast and there is also a freeride park on the Deer Camp trail for newbies to this style of riding as well as the hardcore riders. Awesome dogs on this fun day!! Peace...M

June 13th Mormon flats

Aloha, The Mormon flats trail is always a good place to be for water and just a really cool out and back trail that has been around for a long, long time. starting off getting wet is the way to go on a hot summer day and here you can see the dogs are doing just that, especially Josie, Sasha and Brooks. This can be a busy place with groups of people from all kinds of organizations because it is a relatively easy hike with water most of the way, and not much of an elevation gain. For bikers though, it can be quite technical with all the creek crossings and rocky terrain leading up to the next section that is 5+ miles up to the East Canyon saddle, another awesome hiking and biking trail. We stopped to say hi to these two Great Pyrenees buddies of mine and there new little sheepy friend on the way out. Is he not the cutest thing!!! He acts just like the dogs and is very social. This place has many fun animals and I like to stop to visit when we are out there. Peace. M

June 12th Ontario By Pass & Robs Trail

Aloha- The Ontario By Pass Road is a classic that leads to a much older classic, the infamous Tour de Suds. The moment you step on to this trail you have forgotten the start of your day and have this feeling of tranquility and joy. There is just something about it that eases the mind and soothes the spirit. This can be a busy spot at times but we seem to get lucky most of the time and have it mostly to ourselves to run wild on. From here the options are many with numerous trails spurring off in all directions and enough shade to keep us cool and content. Robs trail is also a favorite, although it is a much more popular trail for hikers bikers and dogs, it offers great shade smooth trails and nice views. We like going here for the socialization factor because you do run into a lot of folks with there dogs, hikers, bikers, runners and guided groups as well. There is one main trail and 3 spurs to take on this one, Rose buds, Collins, and a private trail that is nice and steep for some heavy breathing, if you are into that sort of thing, and it also leads up to the Mid Mountain trail if you are into a longer adventure. Peace...M

June 11th TG1 & 2 adventure

Aloha, Roxy, Dryfus and Reo were my running mates on this fabulous day in Deer Valley on the popular TG1 & TG2 trails. These are two of my favorite trails in this area because of how densely wooded and smooth along with the peacefulness and beauty. There is also the technical aspect of them, especially TG2 with it's narrow, steep, rooted, rocky and windy route. There is plenty of wildlife around to keep the dogs senses reeling as well as mine. Nature....it truly is amazing. Peace. M

June 8th Peak 5 adventure

Aloha Friday, On our way to Roxy's house on Old Ranch Rd we encountered this crane family with their two babies, how cool is that!! Our adventure turned into a treasure hunt under the Peak 5 chair. We found all sorts of goodies including a working lighter, camelback mouth piece, ski pole, some Martygraw beads and a goggle cleaner along with beer cans and plastic bottles that we hauled out to recycle as well on this steep climb. There were a few patches of snow to cool off in and the views of Canyons were amazing, a splendid hike indeed with terrific dogs. Roxy, Zoey, Annie & Gracie and Dryfus made up my 5 pack. Peace. Michael

Friday, June 8, 2012

Aloha friends, What an incredibly beautiful day to be alive and in PC! Unfortunately I will have to describe the days adventures due to my spacing the camera and having a terrible phone camera. My day personally started off with a long paddle on the lake along with one other boater, now that's a way to kick off the day RIGHT! Our first hike in PCMR with Zoey, Roxy, Reo, Delila Bear, Jasper, Annie and Gracie was perfecto mundo! With temps in the 60's, some jazzed dogs, myself included, and no one on the trail, we started off on Sweeney's trail and on up Flat Cable that runs next to the Alpine Slide. The leaves have all come out in full attire, shiny and shady, just the way we like them. Continuing our journey up to Johns trail, where the songs of birds filled the clean cool air, over to 420 down the King Road, back on to a spur of Sweeney's south, small short cut route, and back home. My pack was fabulous, all great listeners and willing to please, making Schwaby very happy. I love my job! Numero dos hike was up the popular Iron Canyon trail that turned out to be not so popular on this fine day, only one runner wearing a running sucks t-shirt. Dryfus joined us on this rocky, technical and really steep trail that stays quite cool for most of the year from its lushness and north facing aspect. There are spurs off the main trail, game trails really, moose especially enjoy this area, and we decided to take one. Doing a bit of trail maintenance, something I enjoy doing, we bush whacked through the thick woods and rocky terrain, all the while the dogs having stepped it up a notch, something they do when it comes to bush whacking. Its really entertaining and fun to see the excitement rush through their furry four legged bodies, it's probably all the wild animal scents elevated to a higher level and they surely do dig it!! Up to the top for a fantastic view of our vacation town that we have the pleasure of actually living and playing in full time, Bitchin'!! We then ran down the mountain of Iron with a BIG FAT SMILE on our muzzles and yet another awesomely cool Schwaby Dogs adventure notched in our furry heads. Life is good. Peace. Schwaby

June 5th Road to Ruby adventure.

Aloha, To get out of the wind my pack and me drove up to Empire pass to see how Road to Ruby was looking, and we were glad that we did. It was beautiful and no one around and no wind, just a small breeze, cool, and delightful.... If you all have not been on this new trail that was built last year, I highly recommend it for hiking and biking, it really is beautiful, peaceful and a well made trail. It branches off of the Empire Link that connects to Mid Mountain and also hooks up with the TG trails towards the top making it a great small or long loop, or out and back adventure. This trail takes you to the saddle of the Empire Pass road or Guardsmans pass as some of you may know it. Life is good. Schwaby
