April 28th adventure

Aloha,
HOLY COW, 65 degrees today in PC!! Calm and warm before the storm, yes folks, we are in for yet another spring storm. I know some of you are over it, and are more than ready for pedaling, hiking and running on the dirt trails, but the snow conditions are fantastic, especially early morning. So keep those boards waxed and enjoy this wonderful late season while we have it. The Canyons today was a little sloppy but still great fun and what a beautiful day, we were lovin' it. Snow shoeing is perfect right now and all the resorts are open for everyone to enjoy and get an awesome workout for their dogs and themselves. Your alternative is to head south to our amazing desert lands, but if you are hanging here, just do it!! Peace out. Schwaby

April 20th, 21st & 26th

Aloha everybody!!
My family just got back from St George where it was 70 degrees and really nice. I did forget to write my blog before we left so here it is for wednesday thursday of last week and yesterday. Crazy spring we are having, one just never knows what the weather is going to bring. I say, just be prepared for anything. Wednesdays hike was my last adventure with Jake and Bailey for awhile, hope to see them all this summer, we will miss you guys. It was a great day in Summit Park with fun dogs and of course some new snow. I had my snow shoes on for the adventure and was happy I did especially for the way down because it was so much fun giant stepping down with all the dogs in hot pursuit! They love to run!!
Thursdays hike with Dryfus and Roxy in the Colony was a stormy day to say the least with white out conditions at the top and more fresh snow. We had to abort our adventure after an hour and get to lower ground where I took the photos for that day, much nicer there. It has been a treat to play on all the closed resorts with so much snow left.
Tuesdays splitboard adventure had to have been one of our top 10 spring days of riding that I can remember with Aspen, Roxy and Dryfus in tow. Eight or so new inches of blower powder in Summit Park with fast and fun dogs taking a line down the mountain that kept going and going, turn after fun turn, and laughing all the way. Oh what fun it is to surf the pow pow!! Be safe out there my friends. Peace Schwaby

April 18th and 19th

Aloha,
It just keeps coming, snow that is, and Mondays storm was wet and wild, we all were soaked to the bone and laughing. Starting on the north side of Deer Valley we looped around to Ontario bowl area and up and over to the intersection of the North side chairs. As you can see in the first photo it was dumping big sloppy wet flakes, I have to say it was much better than the rain in Old Town. Tough day for photo's but fun for my awesome five pack of energized dogs who like myself just love weather!
Tuesdays hike was a totally different story. Much colder, at least 10 degrees, light snow and smooth as butter conditions making for magnificent turns down Empire Bowl. A lot more people were out on this partly sunny day enjoying the beautiful weather and much better snow riding conditions. Great time to get out for some sweet spring turns. Peace. Schwaby

April 15th

Aloha Friday,
With only uno perro, I decided to take a break from the snow and all the gear for a day and just hike with shoes, shovel and a leash with my good pal Dryfus. Round Valley was looking nice and dry on the south west facing trails until we arrived on the north facing stuff that had patches of snow and a bunch of mud. Not quite ready for biking but almost ready for shorts and sneakers Round Valley was pretty nice. Relaxing good day to end the week of adventures. Peace, Schwaby

April 14th

Aloha,
New day, new adventure, and awesome riding in Daly canyon with two of my best friends Jasper and Finnigan. A well deserved super fun day out for Schwaby and friends after April 13th's not so lucky day. Should I be superstitious?? No...13 is one of my lucky numbers!! I had been eye balling and dreaming of this run in Daly canyon all year long and it finally came true. We started on the King Rd trail up on to the Town Loop,up up up onto the Mid Mt Trail, formerly the 8000er trail to the dream run, which a friend has named Hailey's bowl, after one of her past dogs. The snow before this was wet and heavy and the ground was settling making these crazy whooshing sounds, kind of creepy and really cool at the same time. Jasper, Finnigan and I had worked up quite a sweat by this pointe and now it was time to rip it up!! Oh what fun it is to surf and run on untracked pow pow!! A little easier to surf than run so I had a little bigger grin on my face than my buddies, but all were happy. Grrreat day!! Life is good. Schwaby

April 13th

Aloha,
A bit of a ruff start on the day heading up the Guard road with a 7 pack on a beautiful day. Charger was full of energy jumping up and over the large snowbanks until he flew over one that had a large drop off that unfortunately had a bad ending, he blew out his knee, yes my friends, dogs do blow out their knees too. It was a huge bummer and we all are wishing the best for Charger with his upcoming surgery. I still have a vivid image of his rear legs floating over the 6 foot bank like a basketball super star. Get better soon buddy!! After taking Charger to Whitepine we headed over to Pinebrook to hike on the Spring trail. Things were going quite well with everyone including our new charge Daisy who was joining us for a few days during spring break. But on the way down Daisy decided to go her own way, which by this time was post hole territory that all of us had trouble with, especially Tank, who was swimming down the hill towards the end. After flailing down post hole city trying to catch up with Daisy we finally made it to the trail! Wow, that was crazy and a relief to be done with that!! Where was Daisy though, she was no where to be seen, so we trekked down to the truck hoping that she was there, no Daisy. An hour and a half hike turned into a 3 hour tour and all the dogs were exhausted. We drove around calling Daisy and I decided to pull out the binoculars to have a look at the spot we had lost her and low and behold, there she was, back on that damn spot"Post hole city". Well at least we knew she was safe, but it was a good 25 minutes up to that spot. My wife showed up to watch the others and I hoofed it back up to find her and she eluded me once again. I followed her tracks up the same trail that we had started on and she was too sneaky for me, looping around me with out seeing her, she is a white dog and blended right in. I finally had to take a break and the others home. Coming back to the trailhead and hour or so later I started to dry my soaked socks and boots for a third go at it. Just as I was about to leave with the snow coming down Miss Daisy returned, yeah!! She was cold wet and tired but safe and sound curling up shotgun and passing out. Boy oh Boy I sure am glad that these things only happen once in a great while.

Safety tip for spring; stay on the trails and out of Post Hole city. Peace. Schwaby

April 11th Schwaby Dogs adventure

Aloha
What a gorgeous spring day, it almost felt like early March with the fresh semi light powder and slightly chilly air. Has this been a winter to remember or what? I heard that this years snowpack is equal to the early 80's, remember the monsterous dumping year of '83/'84 and the river running down state street? Yeah baby, it has been one of the biggest snow years I have personally seen and there is more to come my friends. It sure beats the heck out of mud season so bring on the weather and throw some sun in there too please. On this glorious day we hiked to one of the higher peaks in Summit Park with a bad ass pack of fired up and fun dogs. I wish that I had brought the board but monster stepping down the mountain on snowshoes turned out to be a gas! Life is good.....Peace. Schwaby

April 7th and 8th

Aloha
I have to say, this has been a spring that most of us will never forget, especially if you are a snow rider! Thursday's adventure into the Sunpeak area on Robs trail was wet but firm enough to hike with just shoes until reaching the south facing slope and it became post hole city. Always a popular trail and lots of friends to see.
Aloha Fridays hike was a totally different story with a report of 16 new inches of dense snow that filled in all the holes and with the howling wind on top smoothing over everything made it a perfect day for surfing!! Bonanza Flats/Deer Valley has been on our top 5 list this year for sweet turns and BIG snow. Life is good!! GET OUT and enjoy it my friends! Peace

April 4th and 5th adventures

Aloha
What a smashing start to the week with a good snow storm and cold conditions for light, well, for spring at least, fluffy snow. One guy told me he had one of his best days of the year, I have heard that a lot this year. The dogs and I were diggin' it in Pinebrook running into no one, I think many people are transitioning over to summer sports or in the gym getting ready. We love it!! My pack today was awesome, Jake, Bailey, Roxy, Max and Harry.
Summit park the next day was a different story to say the least. Heavy heavy snow and warm!! We started out skinning up and I had a bad gut feeling so I put the board on 25 minutes into the hike and rode down. I'm glad my gut was speaking to me because it sucked dude! I strapped on the snow shoes which turned out to be a much better decision and we all had a lovely hike. Peace out. Schwaby

More pics from April fools day

March 30th, 31st and April fools day

Aloha
As you all can see there is still a huge amount of snow in Guardsmans pass, this wall is at least 12 feet tall. We have been frequenting this area because it's soooo nice and the turns are still creamy and fun, and my pack stays nice and clean. Little Miss Junebug joined us Wed with here super fun energy, along with Jake, bailey, Miss D-bear,Roxy, Max and Harry. The snow was wet and heavy so we were in the untracked only for a short core workout and stayed on the groomers for the most part.
Thursdays adventure found us back in the same area with my Splitboard this time hiking in the east side of Bonanza and back side of Deer Valley. The snow had been wind blown and smoothed over making for much better conditions than the previous day, so we took full advantage with 3 killer runs!
Big day of almost 3 hours!! I am not sure what this pyramid shaped tower is for but it made a cool picture.
Two fun hikes on aloha friday landed us in Daly canyon and on the Solamere loop trail. Daly was awesome as always, such a bitchin' place, we hope it stays that way for a long time. The second hike was later in the afternoon and the snow was really really soft with the south facing trails starting to turn into dirt, it won't be long folks until we are pedaling and hiking in our sneaks!
Until next week. Peace
