Nov 28th Deer Valley Adventure

Aloha,
What a beautiful day to be romping in the snow at DV! Not much longer though so we are taking full advantage the next few days. My four pack was ROCKIN' OUT on the Tour de Suds, flagstaff trails and a couple of the DV runs. Not a whole lot of snow but enough to wear my snow shoes and make it fun for the dogs. We are pumped up for the winter to get rollin' and encourage everybody to start dancin'- you know- snow dancin'!!
Peace out. Schwaby

Nov 17th PCMR & Round Valley adventures

Aloha,
Just one more day before PCMR gets the party started with their opening of the mountain, very exciting for many of you!! I personally can wait but the dogs and I decided to check it out anyway so we rallied up to Payday and watched the snow cat dude do his groomin' thang before the big day. I have to admit, it was looking pretty darn good and fun too. The snow on Flat Cable and Sweeney's Switchbacks trails was light with a few muddy spots but the storms are supposedly rolling in and that hike will have to wait until spring. Reo, Roxy, Dryfus, Max, Delila Bear and Bodi were having a blast with each other and the always interesting and fun terrain and smells.
Now Round Valley was a different story with snow, mud and even some dry spots with recent bike tracks, not for long my fellow bikers unless you have the Surly fat daddy bikes. It will be skinny ski time soon and I personally am very excited for skating!! Jasper, Roxy and Reo didn't mind the trail conditions as much as I did in fact they love to get dirty!! Oh well, if it makes them happy I'm happy. We did have a good hike and they were very good except when they saw the bounding deer run up the hill side before I did and took off briefly but the deer were so far ahead they all gave up. GOOD DOGS!
POOP BAGS on trails-If you pick up your dogs poop on the trail with plastic bags-THANK YOU! But PLEASE, take it with you...it drives me crazy when people leave them on the trail, it defeats the purpose. My suggestion-carry a hand trowel like myself and remove it far from the trail. No body likes to step or ride through a big poop, so let's all do our part.
Peace. Schwaby

Nov 15th Winter Adventures

Aloha,
The Masonic trail started out muddy but soon turned into snow once we were on the north facing side. Roxy and Jasper were my charges and the day was gorgeous with temps in the 30's blue sky's and just our smiling faces. We ended our 75 minute loop on April Mountain. Both dogs were excellent and so was the hike.
After dropping off Jasper and picking up Dryfus and Delila Bear we headed up the hill to Guardsmans pass. Starting on the road that was lightly covered with snow we hiked up to the saddle where it was windy and chilly but beautiful. After making it to the water tower on the way to Empire ridge we decided to see how deep the snow was on the north facing side. It was at least a foot or so and super light, yeah...winter is here and we are excited. We jumped and weaved down the mountain landing on the new T&G trail then decided that we didn't need no stinking trails and hauled off through the trees in the freshy-fresh all the way to the Empire lodge. We were all jazzed with our sweet run, snow covered and still smiling! Just a heads up-there was not enough snow to ride so I highly suggest everybody just wait! It will be here soon.
Todays tip-feed your dogs meat even if its only two or three meals per week. Preferably raw and not from the local grocery stores unless you cook it slightly. Love Your Pet Bakery on Park Ave has an excellent food and amazing treats for all your pets. I see a huge difference with the dogs that eat raw!! We feed our cats raw food and they love it and are super healthy and happy. I also sell and deliver the food to you. Nutrition is so important for a healthy and happy life style.
Peace. Schwaby

Nov 14th adventures

Aloha,
Yaahoooo.....The snow has been flying and Robs trail in Sunpeak was fantastic!! Roxy led the charge with her new adventure buddy Reo who was learning the ropes from her on this day. I believe that dogs CAN learn many things from one another such as staying with and be a part of the pack, playing well with others and meeting new dogs. A good human pack leader is also a key component and can be one the most important part of a dogs life. Max and Dryfus were hanging together like they do a lot of the time with Dryfus looking out for his old buddy. I have been watching this relationship grow throughout the last couple of seasons and it's been fun to see. Our second hike on the Lost Prospector trail we worked on patients and staying close to me. I generally use the dogs names, the word close, positive energy and body language, and warm friendly tones, all of which are important ways of communicating with our dogs. Just remember, a confident pack leader has a confident pack.

Nov 10th Pinebrook & Mid Mt adventures

Aloha,
GORGEOUS day in PC, it doesn't get much better and all the dogs were excited about it as well. Our first adventure was on the Up and Arcylon trails in Pinebrook above Gorgoza where we checked out part of the freeride trail. There was a couple of inches on the ground for easy hiking and clean dogs, bonus!!
Mid Mountain was our second hike and it was equally as cool with a bit more snow and a special guest, Shiva joined us for the fun in the sun.
Peace....Schwaby

Nov 8th Colony & Sweeney's adventures

Aloha,
Another moose today and really close too. We have been seeing many of these magnificent creatures lately coming down the mountain for food and the dogs have much respect for them. The
Colony on the Canyons ski runs had up to 5 inches of fresh snow on them which the dogs were lovin' and got my juices flowing with excitement and my sweat on as well. Now I'm getting pumped for the season to officially begin!! Jasper is especially diggin' the snow, I think it's his favorite time of the year.
Sweeney's, where we saw Mr Moose had much less snow with some dry patches of trail for easy
hiking. The dogs and I always enjoy this area for all the awesome trails and scenery, to bad it is coming to a close for us very soon. Life is good:) Peace...Schwaby

Nov 7th Iron Canyon Adventure

Aloha,
Another cold day in PC with my pack of three- Roxy Max and Dryfus on the Iron Canyon trail. There was about 2 inches of new snow and 32 degrees. The resorts are blowing snow big time getting ready to open up the slopes at PCMR on the 19th. It's time my friends to start swooshing down the slopes!! We always see friends on this very popular trail and ALL 3 dogs were well behaved and had a blast. Keep doing the snow dance...Peace. Schwaby

Nov 4th Aloha Friday

Daly Canyon felt different today with our friends Jeff, Deb, Annie and Gracie on the road back to California. We love having them here and are always sad to see them leave. What an awesome summer and fall season with the girls and we look forward to their return.

All the best to the Aarthuns and a safe journey home.
Peace...Michael and the Schwaby pack
