December 27th Round Valley and Solamere hikes

Aloha,

Two good hikes, actually two good skies for Schwabmanmundo!! Yes, I cleaned and waxed the boards    today and went fast.  And it sure felt GOOD!!  Round Valley is starting to look like a Nordic track again and many others besides ourselves were taking full advantage.  We even made some fresh turns on the skinny skies, ugly but fun and adventurous!!  Solamere and the Gap trails along with Snow top were a bit steeper and much less tracked with only two other people out.  There are some great views of Old town from the Gap trails and Snow top and views of the Jordanelle on the back side of Solamere.  It was getting quite chilly willy though by this time of day with the sun going down fast, so we hustled to stay warm and to beat the sunset which we did. My truck read 18 degrees by the time we finished, BURR!!
Have a fantastic weekend everybody in this fabulous new snow.
Peace.....M

Christmas Eve adventure

Baby it's cold outside.....Roxy, Magic and Nala enjoying the cold, beautiful new snow!!
 Lets GO!!!
 WE LOVE FRESH POW POW!!
 Face shot for Roxy!!
Ooooh Boy!!  That's some good action!!
Aloha,

Iron Canyon was a popular spot today with  lots of people and dogs out enjoying the new happy snow.  My guys were awesome listeners even with all the distractions!!  There was probably at least a foot and a half of fresh puder to romp and play in and we did just that.  We made it up to the Colony to catch a view but the fog and snow storm set in by the time we arrived so I put on the snow shoes that I carried up on my back and shredded the Knar with my pups!! The dogs were pumped up during the hike with all the action going on and were tired by the end.   Life is good on a powder day!!:)
Something I always work on with my dogs is patience.  They wait to get out of the truck one at a time, stay seated or laying down for photos and follow the pack leader.  Patience is very important in your dogs education!! It helps them to relax and  to be good listeners. Good dogs are good listeners.
Peace.  Schwaby

See you all next week for Christmas!!!

December 20th Silver Creek adventure

Aloha,

Warmer by a few degrees today in Silver Creek With Roxy, Nala, Magic and Jasper.  Wanna get away to a spot for a short fun hike? This is the place and it's easy to get to and there are a many ponds and some cool loops to play and hike on, not recommended for Mt biking. I just hiked in my boots today for the snow level is lower than Old Town.  Silver Creek is a dog and horse friendly place so if you take your dogs remember to bring a leash and let your four legged buddy know that there are deer, elk and horses that you may cross paths with.  Your dogs will love it!!
Peace...S

December 19th adventures

Aloha,
Whoaaa!!!!  Another very chilly day in PC!  Lost Prospector was very nice on this day with Delila Bear, Magic,  Roxy and Josie girl. The dogs paws were really cold but they all rallied through it and we had a fun adventure on this popular town trail that over looks most  of  PC.  We had the trail all to ourselves and it was perfect for snowshoeing.
Life is good:)
Peace...Schwaby
FYI-Dogs can get frostbite on their pads so take caution when to take them out and how long they are exposed. Booties are great and Mushers Secret( a wax) works fairly well for short hikes and must be reapplied once or twice during hike. Try to stay in the sun too.

Dec 17th

Aloha,

Mondays are one of my favorite days of the week with the dogs I must say... Fresh start after the weekend and this week was extra special with all our happy new snow!!  My first hike with Penelope the Pit Bull was awesome on the Round Valley trails, we were the only ones in sight, it was a little eerie and amazingly peaceful at the same time.  I rarely see this in Round Valley, very cool!
Hike # 2 was another sweet hike with Roxy, Zoey, Nala, Magic and Dryfus in Daly.  Up Trappers gate to the Empire Link trail and down the main shoot of Daly from Lady Morgans.  This trail Rocks and is still open the whole way until DV gets that side of the mountain ready for skiers.  There was about 6 to 8 inches of fresh pow and everybody was happy. Sorry no photos, Schwaby spaced his camera. :|
This is our main man Dryfus looking down at me from atop his porch.
Remember my friends; please always have good trail etiquette and respect for the wildlife and other trail users by picking up or moving your dogs waste off the trail with either a stick trowel(is what I use) or a bag-(PLEASE TAKE YOUR BAGS!!) It just does not make any sense to bag and then space your bag, this drives me BATTY!  Always carry a leash for your dogs. You just never know when you will need one even if your dog is used to being off leash, they should know how to be on one. I ran into some people with their dog and they had no leash and one would have been very handy because their dog was a bit afraid of other dogs and Robs trail is a very popular.  Bring water for yourself even if you think it will be a short hike, you just never know and one can carry a back pack  with water, trowel  and an extra shell hat etc.  I personally carry a pack with h2o, extra leash, shell top, first aid, lighter, sunblock, camera, small rope, Leatherman tool, Voile strap, caribeaner, local trail map,  binoculars, 3 leashes around my neck, and a trowel. I carry all this stuff and use most of it, not all the time, but again you never know, especially in the winter time and nature can do funny things. Stay safe and keep your dogs safe too.  In the meantime...Get out and enjoy Mother Nature and its wonders, it's good for the sole. Peace...Schwaby

Some view ay?  Top of Iron canyon

December 5th Summit Park adventure

Aloha,

It did snow on us at 8,000 ft until  we arrived back at the truck and it was more like rain:( Oh well, on the bright side of things, the trails were much better than last week when they were icy and treacherous, making it quite challenging for hiking  and running on. Its coming my friends, just be patient.

Peace.
Schwaby

Dec 4th

Johns trail with Josie, Roxy, Dryfus and Sasha

A game of chase on Payday. Roxy was the rabbit!!
Aloha,

A dreary day that was brightened by the rough and tumble play of these four fun and happy dogs.  It always amazes me how these creatures of the present can adjust my attitude so quickly and simply.

Peace. Schwaby
