May 27th hikes in Prospector and Promontory

Aloha Friday!
I hope you all can get out on this Memorial weekend for some fun even though the weather is going to be a little wet. Fridays conditions on both hikes were fantastic!! The first one was on the prospector loop/skid row trails which were in excellent condition for hiking and riding with only a couple mud holes where we learned the words go around, something I teach the dogs and are good words to use for many things. Great pack of 7 and all got along famously. As you can see we had all shapes, sizes and attitudes in this pack. Fun Fun!! Our Second hike was on the Princes Di trails in Promontory which were in excellent shape and super fun with a big snow patch at the top for play time with Junebug, Dryfus and Roxy, they really went at it, too funny!! This trail was ready for biking and hiking which excited Schwaby especially! It's coming folks, just be a little more patient, we will be shredding the hills in no time at all!! Life is good. Peace. Schwaby

May 25th & 26th adventures

Aloha,
Now this is more LIKE it!! Warm weather, semi dry trails, water flowing, and green popping out everywhere, maybe we will have a spring after all. Mayflower on the backside of Deer Valley on wednesday was killer! Running water, green green grass, trees blooming, mostly dry to slightly damp trails, and SUNSHINE!!:) We love it! D-bear, Roxy, Dryfus and Maxx were having a blast and had more energy on this gorgeous day than I have seen for awhile, me too. They rolled in the fresh grass, went swimming in the pond and streams, and running to their hearts content. Awesome day!
Thursdays adventure had more of the same weather and conditions on the Solamere loop, Snow Top and Deercrest trails. My six pack of enthusiastic friends were elated to be out in this beautiful weather and mostly dry trails. Get out the mountain bikes folks, it was looking nice with only a few snow patches and muddy spots remaining. Oh yeah...the best part of the day was that Annie and Gracie are BACK!! So good to see you Deb and Jeff, Mahalo Nui for bringing the girls back to Da Schwaby pack!! These dogs bring big fun energy to our pack and we are thrilled to have them back for the spring summer and fall classes. They jumped right back in with all four paws like they never left. Gracie girl filled out nicely and is even faster, while Annie doo was looking as good as ever. Let's get this SPRING PARTY STARTED!! Training tip of the day. Teach your dogs patients. The little things you can do. 1-have them sit and wait every time they leave and enter the house. 2-sit and wait before meal time. 3-sit and wait before introducing them to your friends and new friends. Teaching patients relaxes their minds, gives them jobs to do and brings them to a state of calm submissiveness. The pack leader should be calm assertive while giving these directions making for positive relationships. See you out on the trails!! Peace, Schwaby

May 24th Summit Park adventure

Aloha,
Ok...I am officially over some of the rotten snow that we ran into on this blustery winter day in summit park with Jasper, Roxy and Aspen. Where did our spring go!! It felt like a cold day in March with the snow on top fair to middlen, if there is such a word, and absolutely terrible on the WOS trail, but we made it through and had a blast running down a gully on the snowshoes!! All was not lost, and we were dog tired after that one. Come on SUN, let's get it started! All three dogs were good sports today and listened to all my directions like perfect students. Life is good. Peace out, Schwaby

May 23rd Wolf Creek adventure

Aloha,
I was curious to see how Wolf Creek pass was looking and was surprised with the amount of snow still on the road to Hanna. There was a lot as you can see from the pic at Mile marker16, at least two feet, probably a couple of weeks before it opens. Roxy, Shiva Shiva, Max, Dryfus and I were dancing in the rain today for the first hour of our highway jaunt with me wearing a full rain pullover for the first time all year, dumping dudes, cats and dogs I say!! We saw a good sized mud slide and found a couple of treasures along the way, two big black birds, and that was about it.Very peaceful and quiet on this stormy day with just the sound of the river and happy panting dogs. Peace and harmony. Schwaby

May 20th Guardsman Rd adventure

Aloha Friday,
I was visiting with my dad on this stormy day and he left me with this quote. "Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass, but learning to dance in the rain." Is that cool or what! So what did we do? Went up high and danced in the snow and wind, it was totally awesome!! We missed Dryfus on our adventure, he was having a sick day and we hope he is feeling better. Our guest was Shiva Shiva, yes I said that twice because it is such a great name you have to say it twice. The weather was crazy with snow, wind, rain and a bit of sun, something we all have been yearning for lately. I am here to say folks, that our higher trails will be a while before riding and hiking them as you obviously can see from the pics, it's amazing how much snow is still up there!! The small critters were out searching for food on the snowy tundras and driving the dogs crazy, especially Aspen and Roxy who attempted to catch them, but were not having any success, not even close. Fast little dudes and the dogs were having a blast trying. The dogs know that I will not let them get my little buddies. You all enjoy this fabulous weekend. Peace out. Schwaby

May 9th snowy adventure

Aloha,
Well my friends....it looks like winter is sticking around for awhile and there is nothing we can do about it except to run away to the desert like my family and I did to ride our bikes and hike it up with our daughter who by the way was an awesome hiker, we are so proud of her!!
Moab was really nice, and actually a little chilly at night, but the riding and hiking was fabulous! My best buddies Roxy Aspen Dryfus and I headed for the hills of Deer Valley with all this new snow, at least a foot I would say, and it was Sierra cement!! Nice tour, going down was the hard part and as you can see the visibility was knar knar dudes, so we jumped in the trees to make our way down. I've said it before and I will say it again, it sure beats the mud!! I have to finally admit, Schwaby is growing tired of all the white and would really like to ride his bike and wear shorts and slaps. Oh well, we will have to make the best of it and the dogs really do love it. Keep the faith. Peace and Mahalo to you all. Schwaby

May 12 adventure

Aloha,
Sorry for the delay folks, the blog was not working yesterday. What a fabulous day to be out on this beautiful sunny day with 4 happy dogs and dry trails along with plenty of fresh mountain streams flowing over their banks. We had a blast on the Dutch Hollow Canyon trails which are perfect right now by the way. The leaves have not arrived yet and the grass is growing nicely with a few flowers and shrubs showing their spring colors. We did see a few aspens that had fresh leaves but that was about it. My dogs-Roxy, Roxy2, Dryfus and Sage were awesome on this day and were pooped after hiking for a good two hours, and so was I. We jumped in the rapidly moving stream at the bottom to cool off, always a nice way to finish a long hike. Hello sun and spring time weather!! Life is good:) Peace Schwaby

May 10th adventure

Aloha,
Oh boy, More snow and more fun turns in the Canyons Resort with Roxy and Dryfus. It snowed lightly most of our hike and there was at least 6 new inches of fresh that we enjoyed making big swooping turns down. The cornices on the upper peaks were enormous so we stayed on the low angle safe stuff that turned out to be fantastic. Before we launched ourselves down the winter wonderland I checked the depth and it was at least 225 centimeters deep according to my probe pole. Could this mean more skier days in our future? The winters have gotten longer the last couple of seasons and it would give us all more to do in the shoulder season. Global warming? hmmm... Peace. Schwaby

May 9th adventure

Aloha,
Just another day of winter weather in Pc on the Guardsmans road with my 5 pack of high energy dogs. Maxx was packed full of energy, pretty good for an old guy. Aspen, Sage and Jasper with his nice clean coat, and Roxy were also feelin' it on this Monday of storminess. As you can see there is still a huge amount of winter fun up in our beautiful mountains. The dogs have so much fun in the snow and are most likely not thinking of the desert like many of us, just enjoying the moment and the weather. I am still enjoying it myself and the turns have been great. Awesome dogs on this fine day!! The sun did pop out for a few minutes at the end of our hike, nice! Peace. Michael

May 6th adventure

Aloha Friday,
Tis the season for swimming...Well at least for hardy dogs, it looked chilly! The Middle Provo was teaming with anglers and the water was running pretty good so the the fish were not biting much, but the dogs were diggin' it!!

We want to welcome our newest pack member, Sage, she is the yellow lab in the photo. Sage has a lot of fun energy and went nuts with her new friends. She loves to fetch the sticks and even found a ball for us to toss. The sun was out and trails were nice and dry for our spring pleasure. Have an awesome weekend outside folks!! Peace Schwaby

may 5th Jordanelle res. and Round Valley

Aloha
Sure felt like spring on this beautiful day of adventures!! It was great to put on the hiking shoes and run on the dirt! Our first stop, the Jordanelle res. with Jasper, Mally and Aspen. There has been some trail improvements since our last time there and it is a fun place to go in the spring time for a swim. The views as you can see are spectacular right now. Our second adventure landed us in Round Valley with Smalls, Hendrix, Roxy, Aspen, Mally and our newest member to the pack Roxy. The west facing trails are nice and dry for your hiking and mt. biking enjoyment, yeah! All terrific dogs on this hike as well and our new Puggle Roxy girl fit in nicely with the pack. Fun day, we look forward to sunny days and dirty trails. Life is good. Peace Schwaby

May 3rd Empire adventure

Aloha,
Gorgeous day in Deer Valley, one of our favorite adventure spots in this crazy snow season that is typically our mud season, and we are lovin' it my friends!! As you can see from the photos there is still a butt load of snow! Look at the buried snow fence that is 6 to 7 feet tall!! The conditions were slurpee like but the weather made up for it with lots of sun and happy smiling dogs and Schwaby. Our Second hike was a power walk on the rail trail with Dryfus, Roxy and Aspen. Sorry folks, I decided to go light and leave the pack and camera. Excellent dogs today, everyone of them were on their game today. Life is good... Mahalo! Schwaby
