Aug 15th Empire Ridge adventure

Aloha, Empire Ridge....Always an adventure! With it's amazing views, steep climbs, breezy cool temps, it aims to please hikers of all types, and we were loving it on this perfect day with some cloud cover and stiff breezes to keep us cool. There are plenty of shady spots to chill in, including this patrol shack at the top of McKonkey's chair. We started off at the Empire shoots up from the Guard road, then through the cool forest at the starting point of the chutes, on up the maintenance road to Empire chair. After taking this great shot of the dogs all lined up, "GOOD DOGS!" we headed up to McKonkey's Peak,10,000 ft, our turn around spot, talk about views... forget about it!! What a fantastic adventure and 5 pack of bad ass dogs!! I love my job!! Life is good:) Michael

Aug 14th Sweeney's loop

Aloha, BIG PACK TODAY!! It was great to have a larger pack on this slightly overcast day on the Sweeney Switchbacks, it brought back some memories of the 12 pack days. We were nine and running strong and hard!! There is an energy amongst the dogs when you get this many of them together that is truly a sight to see and feel. I'm not going back to large packs any time soon, but once in awhile I need to test my skills and patients with the BIG packs, it's good for all. We came across all kinds of hikers and bikers and the dogs were very good, except when we caught a family eating lunch. It took a little bit of persuasion to get everybody back on track, food is always a tough one with da pooches, but they all listened to their pack leader and we were on our way. A strong pack leader will have a strong pack. Persistence and consistence, energy and tone will make it happen. It's all about love trust and respect. Peace...Schwaby

Aug 13 Ontario- Sams trail loop

Aloha, Summer is ending and once again fall is in the air, I can just feel it in the air and with the shorter days and some of the scrub oaks starting to show there colors it will be here soon my friends. It has been a little cooler with the help of some light cloud cover along with that crazy haze, smoke from Utah county that is making for an eery red sun in the evening skies. This is, as you all know by now, my favorite season, if only it could last at least a month longer. Ontario by pass road has become one of our favorite hikes because there are so many options and lots of trees for shade and clean air. We came upon this moose that surprised us all, made me jump and the dogs too. He was a big guy as you can see from his mighty rack, which was about the best I could do since he was just out of range for my camera to capture. We soldered on to Johns 99 and the newly cut Sam's trail which by the way is really cool, can't wait to ride it this fall. It's a little dusty now so I think I'll wait it out. As you can see with the Rock dogs shot Brophy is back in action, he has had valley fever that had taken him out of the game for awhile, welcome back Broph!! Peace...Schwaby

We just love love love this trail with all its shade, winding fun trails and oh so many ways to go adventuring. We saw only one person on the trail and it was a friend riding her mountain bike with a big smile as well. Good times!! Peace. Schwaby

July 25th adventure

Aloha, Sams trail is back and it's all new and really fun! We started on the Ontario By pass to Empire link and before you head down Empire under the Daly power lines you head up the trail towards Empire hotel. This is a brand new trail and what a cool one it is. The switch backs are great, not too steep, nice and wide and smooth. We connected with Speed Bag then jumped back on the Mid Mountain connector onto an old school trail taking us down to the Daly mines to Tour De Suds. Awesome loop with shade, water to cool off in and super fun trails. Yeah Baby, that's what I'm talkin' about!! Get out and play my friends!! Peace...Schwaby

July 23rd

Aloha, Oh what a day of bush whacking on the game trails of Iron Mountain!! My hardy 7 pack was not complaining even though it was a little warm and very bushy. These trails are not recommended in the summer time, though great in the winter to reach the ridges for some really nice turns. Roxy, Cooper, Kula, Tillman, Ty & Dryfus were my bad ass bunch! Peace...S
